China Initial Quality Study (IQS)

Publish: September 2024

Based on the ‘Voice of the Customer’, the China Initial Quality Study (IQS) problems encountered by owners of new ICE vehicles within 2-6 months of ownership. The research is categorized by brand, model, and segment to analyze traditional product quality issues (manufacturing quality/malfunctions) and potential product quality issues (design defects related to ease of use). The survey captures high-sensitivity issues encountered by owners during the critical new car ownership period, which can aid businesses in benchmarking product quality, managing product improvement, improving customer word-of-mouth reputation, and ultimately enhancing product competitiveness in the market.

J.D. Power formally launched VQS 2020 platform in 2020, which provides more quality questions related to current and future new technologies and features. The redesigned study will help manufacturers obtain more accurate and in-depth information.

The study examines nine categories:

  • Climate
  • Driving Assistance
  • Driving Experience
  • Exterior
  • Features/Controls/Displays (FCD)
  • Infotainment System
  • Interior
  • Powertrain
  • Seats

The Benefits

Study subscribers will gain insight into the issues of build quality and design quality by make, model, body style, vehicle segment, and vehicle plant assembly line, which help automakers to understand:
